Wilson have returned to their home in St. Petersburg, Fla. after spending a week with their par ents Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Carter at Boone and Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wilson in Mt. City,Term. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Austin and Billie Ann visited Sunday in Collettsville with Mrs. Exie Hodges and Mr. and Mrs. J. F. Tolbert. Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mast of Winston-Salem have returned home after spending the summer in the New England states and parts of Canada including Expo 67 and Niagara Falls. Both were students at the University of Vermont in Burlington for a 6-weeks period. Mrs. Tyre Casy of Cycle accompanied them home last week for a visit with Mr. Mast’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. James B. Mast. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Baird of San Angelo, Texas arrived Tuesday to spend two weeks with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Vannoy and Mr. and Mrs. Clint Baird of Vilas. Mr. Julius G. Walker, age 94, of Wilkesboro, N.C., has been visiting recently in Sugar Grove with his daughter, Mrs. Grady Johnson and Mr. Johnson. Mr. Walker also spent a week with his brother, Grover C. Wal ker, and many friends in Shady Valley, Term. He will return to his home in Wilkesboro this week. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Charming Minor of Charlotte visited Mr. Minor’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe C. Minor over the weekend. Mrs. Charlie Younce has re turned to Wilkesboro after spending the summer at her home in Boone. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Hall of Norton, Va. visited Friday with Mrs. W. M. Cook. Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Martin and Miss Suzanne Martin of Franklin, Ky. spent the weekend with the Frank Paynes. They were enroute to Greensboro where Miss Martin will teach in the Northern Junior High School. Mr. and Mrs. H. 0. Dowling visited Sunday in Morganton with Mr. and Mrs. George Davis and Mike. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Winkler were guests Sunday of Rev. and Mrs. Paul Townsend in Newland. Dr. and Mrs. William Mathe son, Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Hamby and Mrs. Robert Matheson were in Atlanta, Ga. this weekend for the Atlanta Falcons-Cleve land Browns football game. Mrs. Robert Matheson left today for Cleveland, Ohio where she will join Mr. Matheson. They will make their home there. Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Z.C. Isaacs were their son Mr. Edwin Isaacs and Mrs. Isaacs of Rock Hill, S. C. Mr. and Mrs. R. G. Long enecker and children Mark and John of Champagne, HI. spent some time last week with Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Richardson and family. Mr. Nathaniel Davidson is returning to Perrine, Fla. to begin another year of teaching in Dade County school system. Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Richard son and children Julia and David were in Maryland this weekend for the wedding Saturday of Miss Jane Ellen Hudson and Mr. Syrus Karper at the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Hag erstown. Visitors at “Doe Fork'*, home of Mr. Nathaniel R. Davidson during the summer have in cluded Mr. and Mrs. Darrell Burkhart and children Denisa, Cindy and Kenneth. The Burk harts are neighbors of Mr. Davidson in Florida. Mr. David Ennis Clark has returned to Parkersburg to be gin his junior year at Parkers burg High School. Recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. James Rhoades were Mr. and Mrs. S. L. West, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Livengood and son, Paul and Mr. and Mrs. J. L. West and Susan of Winston Salem. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. Dr. and Mrs. Graydon Eggers visited with their son John L. Eggers, Mrs. Eggers and Lisa in Clemson, S. C. last week, Mr. and Mrs. Early Earp attended homecoming services at the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church Sunday and also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Asa Greene. Mr. Daniel Ennis Clark III has been visiting with his uncle, Mr. Nathaniel R. Davidson, at “Doe Fork” on Howard’s Creek Road for the past four weeks. Also at Mr. Davidson's home has been his mother, Mrs. E. Boden Davidson. Mrs. David son will accompany her grand son, Daniel in, to Parkersburg, W. Va. to visit her daughter, Mrs. D. E. Clark and her other grandchildren. Mrs. J. R. Smith has return ed to her home in Alexandria, Va. after spending the summer in Boone with Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Ayers and family. Vows Exchanged In Arlington MRS. WILLIAM E. BODEEN Miss Kathryn Clay and Mr. William E. Bodeen were united in marriage Saturday, Aug. 5, by the Rev. William Robinson in the chapel of Mt. Olivet Meth odist church, Arlington, Va. Their families and friends from the Washington area were there as the bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Forsman of Virginia Beach, Va. spent last week with Mrs. Forsman’s sister, Mrs. W. B. Hodges and Mr. W. B. Hodges. Mrs. Bessie Brown has re turned to her home in Jackson, N. C. after being the guest of Mrs. A. L. Cook for two weeks. Mrs. Paul Fox of Hickory spent the weekend with her mother, Mrs. A. L. Cook. On Sunday Mrs. Fox and Mrs.Cook attended the Cook reunion which was held at Stony Fork Baptist Church. Sunday visitors with Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Moretz were Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Wilson and Lana from Jonesboro, Tenn. and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Wilson of Zionville. Dr. and Mrs. John L. Jelli corse of Evanston, 111. were weekend guests of Dr. and Mrs. C. Ray Lawrence. Mr. and Mrs. Hoy Lanning spent the weekend at Cherry Grove Beach. Attending the wedding of Miss Carol Kindred Congleton, and Mr. David Randell Byrd on August 20 at theFirstChristian Church in Barbourville, Ky. were the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Winkler, Mrs. Carl Fidler, Donald Fidler and Misses Melinda and Debbie Winkler. Sunday visitors with Mrs. J. D. RanKin at Watauga Hos pital were Mr. and Mrs.C. E. Rankin and Mrs. B. L. Smith of Greensboro. Mrs. Rob Rivers was admitted to Duke Hospital, Durham, Tuesday where she undergoes heart surgery this morning.She was accompanied to Durham by her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Krida of Jonesboro, Ark. and will be joined in Durham today by Rob Rivers. Mr. and Mrs. Krida spent t ie week end visiting in the Rivers home, Mr. Krida returning to Jonesboro Tuesday. Miss Janice Lewis spent the weekend in Charlotte where she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Conn, Chuck and Gary. Miss Martha Fuller of Wake Forest spent last week with her sister Mrs. S. F. Horton. On Friday Mr. and Mrs. Hor ton and Miss Fuller spent the day in Asheville with another sister, Mrs. Grant L. Donnely. Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wilson, Sandra and Patricia of Vilas and Mrs. Jim Proffitt of Mt. City, Term, spent a few days last week in the Great Smoky Mountains and Gatlinburg, Term. They visited Mr. and Mrs. Jack Proffitt and family in Johnson City, Term. Friday. Major David F. Horton, who has been attached to General Westmoreland’s staff in Viet Nam for the past year is ex pected home in September. Mrs. Max R. Burt of Fuquay Varina and the late C. A. Clay of Vilas, was given in marriage by her brother, C.E. Clay of Raleigh. Her only attendant was her college roommate, Mrs. Sybil Terry Monsell, Long Is land, N.Y. The bride’s white crepe dress featured a jacket of scalloped lace and she wore a matching mantilla. She carried a bouquet of white orchids and sweetheart roses. The matron of honor wore yellow crepe with a jacket of white lace over yellow and carried white and yellow da isies. Best man was Cmdr.Clar ence Kunstmann of Charleston, S.C. Ushers were William Sal mon of Washington, D.C. and Wayne Clay of Raleigh. The mother of the bride wore a turquoise lace dress and cor sage erf yellow orchids. The bridegroom’s mother was dres sed in pastel green brocade and chiffon and wore green orchids. An employ of the Sulphur In stitute in Washington, the bride is a graduate of Cove Creek High School and UNC—Greensboro where she majored in business administration. The bride groom attended American Uni versity and is a graduate of Columbia Technical Institute, Arlington, Va„ where he studied architectural drafting . He is employed by a structural engin eer in Kensington, Md. The bride’s mother honored the couple with a reception in the church lounge. Mrs. C.E. Clay served punch. The week pre ceding the wedding, the bride was entertained with a shower, she and her fiance were feted at a dinner party at Columbia Country Club and the bride groom’s family entertained at a dinner after the F riday evening rehearsal. After a short wedding trip, the couple is residing in Beth esda, Md. Donnelly-Gryder Parties Held A rehearsal dinner for the wedding party of Miss Shirley Donnelly and Mr. Pat Gryder was given Friday at the Gateway Restaurant by her aunts. * * * * Mrs. Mayme Donnelly was hostess at a luncheon for the Donnelly-Gryder wedding party at her home at Sutherland, Sat urday, Aug. 26. Mrs. Donnelly is the grandmother of the bride elect. General Meeting Of Worthwhile Qub The general meeting of the Worthwhile Woman's Club was held Aug. 24 at the club house. The meeting was opened with the Club Collect and Club Wo man’s Hymn. Mrs. Homer Brown, president, conducted the business. The club will assist the Red Cross in furnishing articles to fill 50 ditty bags for service men and these will be sent in time for Christmas. Mrs. John Horton and Mrs. J. D. Shoemake were welcomed after being absent due to illness. Mrs. Shoemake, program chairman, presented Mrs. Dave Mast, counselor for students in Watauga County, who gave a program on education. She spoke of her work at Watauga High School and elsewhere in the County. There are 1,200 students there and 63 faculty members, plus lunchroom staff, secretaries and maintenance workers. Her task is to assist the stu dent with his problems, espe cially students going out of his community for the first time. Her aim is to treat every child as an individual and respect his needs and qualification, she said. She stated that 60 per cent of graduates last year went on to college. Hostesses, Mrs. Wayne Rich ardson, Mrs. R. S. Bushnell and Mrs. D. L. Wilcox, were assisted in serving refresh ments by Miss Judy Richard son, who was a guest. Erneston-Reary Wedding Events Wednesday, Aug. 23, Mrs. Wayne Richardson, Mrs. Paul Sanders and Mrs. William Ross entertained Miss Maria Ernes ton, bride-elect of Mr. James Reary, at a surprise shower after a bridge party at the Richardson home. Twenty-four guests were present when the honoree received a serving dish in her china, a corsage and many lovely gifts. Thursday Miss Kay Greene and Miss Patty Spencer enter tained Miss Erneston at a din ner-kitchen shower attheSpen cer home. Twelve persons were present as the gifts were open ed. The hostesses presented her with a charcoal grill. Miss Erneston entertained her attendants with a luncheon at the Daniel Boone Hotel Fri day. Her maid of honor re ceived a Bible, and the brides maids each received a gift of silver. * * * * After the wedding rehearsal, Mrs. William Spencer and Mrs. Jack Lawrence entertained the wedding party with a cake cut ting at the Spencer home. The three-tiered wedding cake was served by Miss Kay Greene. Miss Patty Spencer presided at the punch bowl. The couple was presented a crystal tray. TOPS Club Is Organized A new organization, the Wa tauga County TOPS Club, will meet from 7 to 8 p. m. each Monday at the County Health Office. TOPS—Take Off Pounds Sensibly—is being started by Mrs. Jane Davis, who belonged to a TOPS Club before moving to Boone recently. Requirements for member ship? You must be 10 pounds overweight. Caldwell-Dougherty Wedding MRS. BARTLETT BARNARD DOUGHERTY Miss Sara Ruth Caldwell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John C. Caldwell of Fairforest,S.C., became the bride of Bartlett Barnard Dougherty of Boone Aug. 26 at 4 p.m. at the Fair forest Baptist Church. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Barnard Dougherty and the late David Barnard Dougher ty. The double-ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. William Boet erf Fairf orest, S. C., and the Rev. J. Boyce Brooks of Boone. Wedding music was presented by Miss Joyce Ann Babb, or ganist, and Mrs. Joel McKin ney, soloist. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a formal gown of wedding satin, over laid with silk organza. It was designed with an empire waist accented by a satin band and tailored bow. A cathederal length train trailed from the shoulders and a satin rose held the fingertip veil of illusion. She carried white miniature roses and stephanotis. Mrs. Ralph J. Davis Jr., matron of honor, wore a gown of mint green satin overlaid with chiffon and carried two long stemmed yellow roses. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Ben ny Hines, Miss Elaine Powers and Miss Sandra McMakin of Spartanburg, S. C., Miss Vivian Bridges of Macon, Ga., Miss Nancy McCain of Sophia, N.C., and Miss Jane Dougherty of Boone. Each wore a yellow floor length gown identical to the matron of honor and car ried a yellow rose. Serving as best man was David D. Dougherty of Boone. CAKE CUTTING A cake cutting was given in the social hall of Fairforest Baptist Church in honor of the bride and groom by Mrs. Bar nard Dougherty after the re hearsal Friday night. A color scheme of yellow and white was used and the wedding cake was decorated with yellow rosebuds. It was served by Mrs. Douglas Redmond and Mrs. Roy Rufty of Boone. Punch was pour ed by Mrs. O. L. The vows were spoken in the pres ence of members of the im mediate families of the couple. Mrs. Hartley is the foster daughter of Lt. Col. and Mrs. H. H. Church, formerly of Todd. She is a junior at Appalachian State University. The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Hartley of Boone. Mr. Hartley is now serving in the United States Air Force.
